Come and See Open House

" "On Saturday, October 17, 2015, an open house was held at Providence Motherhouse in Kingston in honour of the Church's Year of Consecrated Life. Approximately 400 people attended and it was a wonderful afternoon.

To mark the year, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious has suggested that religious congregations hold an open house and invite in their neighbours and communities. Providence Motherhouse is home to three congregations at present: Providence Motherhouse is not only home to the Sisters of Providence, but also to members of the Congregation of Notre Dame Sisters and the Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph.  In addition, the men's congregation the Conventual Franciscan Friars were also invited to join the event.

From the beginning of our planning, the intention has been to invite the community to tea with Kingston’s religious and to share the ministries conducted out of the Motherhouse.

Sisters from three congregations share tea and invite the public to join them: Sister Ruth Penny, CND (left); Sister Marie Dundon, SP (centre) and Sister Rena Doucette, RHSJ are pictured here.

The tour included:

  • Providence Spirituality Centre
  • The Chapel of Mary, Mother of Compassion
  • Our Ministries for Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation
  • Our The Heirloom Seed Sanctuary ministry
  • PeaceQuest
  • The Heritage Room, and
  • Our proposed plans for Providence Village currently to be tested by feasibility study

Providence Motherhouse is on private property, though many visit us for classes, meetings and more. While the public was warmly invited to our Come and See afternoon, thank you for understanding that this is a special event and 1200 Princess Street remains private.
