Ministry

San Francisco el Alto, Guatemala

In January 1977, Sr. Constance Kaufman, the local Superior of Momostenango observed that some of the local women were interested in religious life. She informed the Leadership Team that six women were interested in religious life and Sr. Constance was placed in charge of their formation. On an annual visitation in November 1977, two members of the Leadership Team visited with, and interviewed the women who were interested in religious life, as well as met with the local Bishop and parish Priest. The decision was made to open a House of Formation. Bishop Manresa Formosa and Father Roberto Contin were anxious to open the House of Formation in San Francisco el Alto and it was officially opened in July 1979. In 1981, it was decided that the local women who continued to show interest in religious life be directed to a Guatemalan congregation. Consequently, it was not feasible to keep the House of Formation in San Francisco el Alto open and the sisters were redirected to work in Momostenango and San Cristobal.
