The government proposed remote education, starting April 6th. We were going to start on March 16th. However, we came across the stark reality of having no means of connecting with the students. First, the registration system of our schools did not have phone numbers for all the students.

We made suggestions about people who could join the campaign to get an oxygen processing plant for Carabayllo. It is well known that the hospitals do not have enough oxygen to be able to attend to the entire population affected by the virus and many die at home or in hospitals because of the lack of oxygen.

Jubilee cancelled during pandemic

COVID-19 is not the only pandemic in the Sisters of Providence’s history to prevent Jubilees from being celebrated. Historically jubilees were not celebrated altogether annually in June the way they are now, but were celebrated throughout the year as the anniversaries occurred.

St. Michael’s Band, a rhythm band, was formed in 1934 in Belleville by Sister Mary Mercedes. The students were originally recruited from Grade 1 at St. Michael’s Academy and many of the same children stayed in the band into their high school years.
