Sister Mary Alphonsus Keenan

Mary Keenan
1863 - 1939

On March 14, 1939, Sister Mary Alphonsus (Mary Keenan) after a lingering illness borne with admirable patience and resignation, died at the House of Providence, Kingston.

Sister had spent almost her entire religious life in tending to the wants of the poor in the institution and caring for the sick in their homes in the city and visiting.

In this capacity Sister rendered invaluable services in her quiet unassuming way, ever maintaining the same sweet, gentle disposition so characteristic of her, and which endeared her to her associates and the poor for whom she entertained the greatest charity.

In ministering to their wants, she looked upon them as Christ’s special friends, and thought no sacrifice too great in bringing them comfort and relief.
