Sister Mary Angel Guardian Mangan

On December 25, 1940, Sister Mary Angel Guardian (Bridget Mangan) died at the House of Providence, Kingston.

In the course of her religious life Sister held some of the highest and most responsible offices in the Community, both in the east and the west. She was entrusted with the management and building of Providence Hospital, Daysland, the first foundation in western Canada, and with Providence Hospital, Moose Jaw, Sask.

These and other undertakings, which were carried out under trying circumstances, would have seemed unsurmountable to a less courageous soul. Thus, to her zeal and undaunted spirit of faith, the missions in the west owe a deep debt of gratitude.

Up to her last moments she manifested the same never failing interest in all that pertained to the development and growth of the community. She rejoiced in the opening of every new mission, and she was often heard to say “It is a new home for our Lord”.

She was a religious of high principles, who walked the straight and narrow path through life, always true to her first ideals of religious observance.
