Sister Mary Madeleine Keeley

Margaret Keeley
1890 - 1938

On August 5, 1938, Sister Mary Madeleine (Margaret Keeley) passed to her eternal reward at the Hotel Dieu, Kingston.

After profession Sister went to study at Maryvale Abbey, Glen Nevis. Graduating from Ottawa Normal School, she taught for some years in the schools of Kingston, Brockville, Arnprior, Tweed, Trenton, Belleville, and Gananoque.

Blessed with an unusually bright, cheerful disposition she soon endeared herself to her Sister companions in the convent. Although not robust, owing to much physical suffering, in her zeal she pursued her work in the class room unremittingly and with surprising energy. She was considered an outstanding teacher in primary education, and met with unqualified success. She loved her work and was indefatigable in her efforts for the advancement of her pupils. She was hoping to resume her work after the summer holidays and join in the annual retreat, but after a week’s illness borne with patience and fortitude God called His faithful servant to receive her reward.
